2010 Compound Bow Ratings and Sports Motivation
Rating compound bows is always a subjective task, never free of the raters prejudice, and sure to spark arguments. Nevertheless, since half of 2010 has gone and numerous new bows have been sold I will give my ratings of the top three bows of 2010. My ratings are based on my own experience, customer feedback, and what I find on the archery forums I visit. The sole criteria is buyer satisfaction, that is how well does the compound bow model in question meet and exceed its owners expectations.
Number three on my list of best bows of 2010 is a tie so maybe my list is really four bows. The tie goes to the Hoyt Maxxis and Carbon Matrix. The Carbon Matrix would be third or higher on my list except that most archers just can not swallow the 1600 dollar price tag. For that kind of money you can buy one each of the number one and two bows on this list. Even at that price Hoyt has had no problem selling their limited production. The Maxxis 35 is is the machined riser version of the Matrix and the Maxxis 31 is the shorter hunting bow. I am including both under the Maxxis title. Maxxis bows have been selling well everywhere. Archers love their balance, smooth draw, and shock free release. While every bow company occasionally produces a lemon, Maxxis and Carbon Matrix bows have been bug free with no recurring problems reported.
Number two is the Bowtech Destroyer. The Destroyer comes in two models, the Destroyer 340 and Destroyer 350. They are identical except the 340 has a one inch higher brace height. I will include both under the Destroyer name for this review. For the Destroyer Bowtech went all out to address some of the recurring bugs from previous model bows. A new limb was designed with a stiff tip to reduce cam lean and the binary cams are slaved together with an outside the limb yoke system which allows more cam lean tuning. The cable guard is a heavy duty flat spring with rollers on the end to contain the cables. The guard flexes inward under the tension of the draw and then springs outwards at the shot to pull the cables clear of the arrow. This greatly reduces the torque in the bow from that produced by traditional cable guards. The Destroyer is a also very fast bow, up to 350 feet per second IBO rating, a speed which very few bows can top. Destroyers have been selling as fast as Bowtech can produce them. Archers rave about the speed, smooth draw, and tuning ease. like the Hoyts the Destroyer has been bug free and no common problems have been reported.
Number one is the Mathews Z7 compound bow. With the Z7 Mathews has hit the sweet spot for many archers. The Z7 has the smoothness of draw, mass weight, balance, size, speed, and appearance that many archers crave. What could be more proof of this then with the main bow selling season not yet arrived, Mathews has already reported the Z7 as their number one selling bow of all time! (dollar wise)
Motivation is the key to success in life and is a well-known fact that success requires a great deal of patience and hard work. In order to achieve victory a sports person is required to practice and train every day. As such, they need to be suitably motivated. Lack of motivation may lead to a lax in their fitness routine.
People can be motivated in numerous ways. Researchers state that motivation is “a process through which a person makes use of available resources, time, talent, and energy, and distributes them in a way they choose.” This process is called the personal investment theory, and it includes a two-stage causal process. The first stage involves the effects of external factors and their influence on how an individual looks at a particular situation. In the second stage, the individual takes into consideration a personal investment in the situation. The personal investment involves an inner drive, a desire, or an intention an individual possesses as a reaction to external influences. Different athletes have different forms of motivation to keep them dedicate to a particular sport. It may be enjoyment, physical fitness, social relationships, or goal attainment.
There are two kinds of motivation that enables sportsmen to achieve a particular goal or task. The first type of extrinsic motivation in sports comes from external influences or people. People are extrinsically motivated to earn rewards, social recognition, or benefits. The second kind of intrinsic motivation is an inherent characteristic that feeds off one’s inner drive to accomplish a goal or objective.
Intrinsically motivated people focus on a task for their own sake. They have a sense of self-determination, and look upon themselves as being able to meet the demands of a particular task. With the introduction of the Internet, there have been a number of sites solely dedicated to providing information on sports motivation. These sites also publish a number of sports related articles and quotes intended to motivate sportspersons.

Golf Instruction: Your Own Golf Teaching and Drills Book: “My5rules”
If you listen to good players or to Golf Playing Professionals when they give interviews then they all tell you the same. They all keep records of their game and individual practice sessions with and without their Teaching Pro. They do it because they know that they cannot have their Teaching Pro on their side every day to help them if they do not hit the ball or play as well as they want to. On the course you are on your own and that is what separates the best players from the good ones. The best have found a way to help themselves in every situation they face. Keeping records of swing thoughts etc. helps them to face problems in their game and solve it right away. And you know what? Golf is a game full of problems. Every shot can face you with a problem that you once have solved and then it is nice to have it written down how you have done it and maybe what you have thought. It is even good to write down what has not helped. Then you do not need to try it again that way if you have forgotten that you tried it this way.
The one who writes lasts as an old saying tells us. What does that mean for the rest of us?
Everybody who plays golf and is interested in a certain progress should keep records of every round of golf and every practice session there was. That will help to remind yourself or have the chance to do so if your are uncertain about e.g. your swing thought for the day before the next round with your buddies or tournament round or even your next practice session.
“my5rules” for your trainings book:
- What did I practice?
- How long did I do it and when did I do it?
- How did it feel like?
- Which thoughts where coming into my mind when I did it?
- What will I do different the next time?
Do not be afraid of the start. For the first time you can just write down what you did practice. Sooner or later you will start to fill in more details about your golf or what you have done today on the course or practice tee. Really important is that you secure good things that have done well or the feelings you had and how the new move in your swing felt like. That will help you to improve every time you go on the golf course. Write in drills you have completed or practice sessions you really liked or felt that they had a great influence on your performance the other day. As I said earlier on. Even write down if something did not work out the way you planed. Even that will help you to get faster on the improvement track.
Really good Teaching Pros offer their students something like this after every lesson. This will help the students to rethink what have been done in the lesson before his next lesson or round of golf. That is the way to improve. You will be amazed if you start to keep records how fast you will improve and will wonder why you did not use such a book before. Ask your pro to offer you something like this or make it on your own.
Enjoy your Golf!

The Golf Swing and How It Affects Your Score
There are a few variables that affect how well you play on a golf course. However, the most vital part to remember is the golf swing. If you are looking to drastically improve your score the next time you are out on the course, it is worthwhile to pay attention to this facet of your game.
Speed
The speed of the golf swing you use is important. Think about it. Generally speaking, the goal of the game is to get the golf ball down the course. If you daintily hit the ball on your first try, it most likely isn’t going to make it very far. And forget trying to get around sand traps and waterways! In order to improve your technique, you will want to increase the speed at which you hit the ball. Most professional golfers can reach speeds of over 100 MPH! While you will not be able to do this in the beginning, increasing the number of upper body exercises you do while at the gym can greatly improve your ability.
Club Selection
Club selection is another important consideration when composing the golf swing technique you use. Always select a club with the right loft angle, preferably one with an eleven to thirteen degree angle if your speed is under 100 MPH. This will help the trajectory of the ball and enable you to control your swing a bit more easily.
Score Affects
Obviously, the above techniques are designed to help you control the ball at a longer distance more effectively. The golf swing technique you use can vastly affect the final outcome of your golf game. Once you learn to control the ball, driving it a great distance (i.e. driving), you can learn to control the ball at a shorter distance (i.e. putting) to improve your score. This is one of the easiest ways to improve your golf game. Where do you start first depends on how serious you are. The first place to start is to get instructions from a golf pro, and the second place is to invest in courses that will fine tune your techniques.
The best way to improve the golf swing technique you use is to practice. Spend afternoons on the golf course and to visit your local driving range often. The more of your time you invest, the more you will want to improve you game. Few sports will take you to beautiful golf courses around the country, put in the outdoors on beautiful sunny days, and reward you with a stop at the 19th hole for some refreshments. Now go out there and start practicing your golf swing!
